Priest's Retirement Home
The 3-storey apartment building offers modern fully accessible two bedroom + study units with basement parking for retired Priests from the Brisbane Archdiocese. The development includes a central lobby, private open space & balconies, communal recreational facilities small Chapel, as well as a communal outdoor area and basement car parking.
The indoor communal space has been specifically provided so that retired priests can pray together as well as relax. Due to their strong religious faith and their ongoing work for the community, it was considered that the recreation space should also provide for these needs as well.
The communal area can be opened to the external BBQ area with access to the landscaped zone along the boundary of the site.

DESIGN FEATURES

Legibility of Form
Designed modest familiar homelike environments

Spaces That Nurture
Reflective and group prayer space to support and repose

Connectivity and Socialisation
Public and private spaces both internally and outdoors for group activity or quiet retreat

Sense of Place
Comfortable places to live and belong
The building form, roof pitch and roof shape complements those of pre 1946 “tin and timber” surrounding houses, it is sympathetic to the interwar style, which is also common in the area, in particular it is similar in form to the building it replaced; with a rendered masonry larger bulk to the style of the inter-war “flats” building types. The new building however is more generous with its balcony size offering residents private external space for retreat and views over the West End Community.
